FMG Newsroom

Jefferson Science Associates, LLC has been awarded a contract worth $3,122,899,691 from the Department of Energy for the management and operation of the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (TJNAF), according to federal contracting records.

The award, designated contract number DEAC0506OR23177 and funded under Treasury Account Symbol 89-0222, covers the full scope of management and operations at the DOE-owned national laboratory. Management and operations (M&O) contracts are the standard vehicle through which the Department of Energy governs its national laboratory network, with the M&O contractor responsible for scientific programs, facilities management, environmental health and safety compliance, and workforce operations.

The Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility is a Department of Energy Office of Science user facility that conducts fundamental research on nuclear physics — specifically the structure of the nucleus of the atom and the properties of quarks and gluons. Jefferson Lab hosts thousands of researchers from around the world each year.

At $3.12 billion, the Jefferson Science Associates award ranks among the most substantial M&O agreements in DOE's current science laboratory portfolio, reflecting the agency's long-term commitment to maintaining premier national research infrastructure.
