Department of Energy Awards $945.9M Hanford Central Plateau Cleanup Contract

Central Plateau Cleanup Company receives Task Order 7 for end-states and base operations at the nation's largest nuclear cleanup site

FMG Newsroom

The Department of Energy (DoE) has obligated a cumulative $945,862,222 on a remediation services contract with Central Plateau Cleanup Company, LLC, for work at the Hanford Site in Washington State — the nation's largest nuclear cleanup project.

The most recent action, Task Order 7, covers End States and Base Operations at the Hanford Central Plateau. The task order was issued as an undefinitized task order pursuant to the contract's task-ordering clause and carries a not-to-exceed (NTE) value of $98,000,000. The base contract, award number 89303924FEM400054, runs from October 1, 2024, through September 30, 2027.

The Hanford Central Plateau Cleanup Contract spans remediation of legacy nuclear waste from decades of plutonium production. The site contains 56 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste stored in 177 underground tanks, along with contaminated soil and groundwater across approximately 580 square miles.

For government contractors, the Hanford cleanup represents one of the most significant and sustained environmental remediation programs in the federal portfolio. The work falls under NAICS code 562910 (Remediation Services) and is managed by DoE's Office of Environmental Management through the Hanford Field Office.

The use of an undefinitized task order — a common contracting vehicle for work where scope must be defined after notice-to-proceed — means final task order pricing will be negotiated between DoE and Central Plateau Cleanup Company as technical requirements are refined.
