Consolidated Nuclear Security's Y-12/Pantex Management Contract Reaches $34.3 Billion in Obligations
NNSA funding modifications in June added roughly $191 million to the nuclear weapons complex operating contract
Consolidated Nuclear Security, LLC's (CNS) management and operating contract for the National Nuclear Security Administration's (NNSA) Y-12 National Security Complex and Pantex Plant, with an option for Savannah River Tritium Operations, has reached $34,256,470,772.89 in cumulative total obligations, according to federal award data on USAspending.gov (award ID DENA0001942).
The contract was originally signed January 8, 2013, and its current period of performance runs through September 30, 2027.
USAspending's transaction history shows two funding modifications recorded June 30, 2026: modification 397 obligating $185,338,188.19 and modification 398 obligating $994,070.91, together adding roughly $186.3 million. An earlier modification recorded May 28, 2026 (modification 396) added $5,388,303.45, and a June 11, 2026 modification (394) carried no additional dollar obligation. Federal records describe these only as management-and-operating contract actions without an itemized program breakdown. A further modification recorded July 21, 2026 (modification 400) also carried no additional obligation.
Y-12 and Pantex are both NNSA sites; the Department of Energy said July 22, 2026, that the Genesis Mission Consortium, its AI-for-science initiative launched by executive order in November 2025, includes five NNSA plants and sites among its members. Public USAspending transaction records reviewed for this contract do not show a modification specifically tied to Genesis Mission clauses, unlike separate contract updates made the same week to two DOE Office of Science laboratory contracts (Pacific Northwest and Lawrence Berkeley).
